"Over 120 pieces of works from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and Yugoslavia were presented for evaluation. Selected for the exhibition were 55 artists with 62 pieces. In selecting participants, the board sought to reveal variety of techniques and to satisfy the desire to enrich the exhibition by pieces from foreign collections. The main selection criteria were, of course, the quality and aesthetic power of the works. Most of the works selected did reflect the nerve and spirit of present time through universal forms of expression. The exhibition features diverse works, among them are pieces for decorating walls: traditional tapestries, works made by binding, felting and individual artists’ techniques; three dimensional objects and conceptual works. The most abundant was the latter group of experimental art of unconventional materials made by innovative techniques, with less attention paid for precision. Such pieces, however, distinguish themselves through vivid sculptural form, refined plastic decisions or material aesthetics.”
