An art critic Raimonda Kogelytė
Simanaitienė wrote about exhibition:
“LINE” of ’99 weighty intervenes the
dispersion of textile days in Kaunas
and continues the idea of the international textile event that took place in
’97.
We can draw a line in different ways: straight line – to mark the direction of an endless action; light stroke – when we follow the “from…to” criteria; winding line – to mark an enigmatic flow of time; short segment – to emphasize a meaningful period and also in many other possible variants bearing semantic senses of the line in our minds. There’s no discussion concerning the significance of the line in plastic decorative art: it is the expression of a pliant form silhouette as well as one of the oldest ornaments used for decoration, also one of the elements of artistic expression. The line might be treated as an essential, fundamental quality and basis of a handicraft. This can be seen in textile where the idea of a thread is associated with endless straight line, whereas the wrap of the fabric – with the net uneasily parted by lines.”
