R20 Nena Skoko Snežana, Ana Pavlovic, Milena Ristic (Serbia). RENOVATION — ART SERVICE. October 1st—8th
In their works, Nena Skoko Snežana, Ana Pavlovic and Milena Ristic from Serbia like to make fun of cultural, political and social contexts. Her satirical works often threaten to trespass some boundaries or simply make people laugh. But after the surprise or laughter, there comes reflection on the meaning of our life.
Moreover, Snežana wants to involve others in creative activities. She will bring Serbian and Lithuanian textile artists together during the Kaunas Biennial and will give them two tasks. First, to find out, explore and condemn the unhealthily huge consumption (especially of textiles). Secondly, to inlay, decorate and embellish worn (or not worn because boring) clothes brought by visitors with artistic, beautiful or conceptual patches.
Those who will bring clothes will have, first, to sit down and have a chat with the artists and express their views on aspects of fashion, the good of handwork and the evil of consumption; additionally, they will get some advice on how to decorate clothes (personalise them). After this discussion with textile experts, some people might venture in realising their simmering creative ideas.
The political subtext of such a renovation of clothes is to extol and promote craft and handwork and also to show contemporary textile art to the society — to bring it closer to the body. It will also be an undeniably firm artistic ‘No!’ to the mass produced and unified fashion.
After such an artistic intervention the clothes will be suitable (and recommended) to wear; only they will have to stay in the exhibition for a while.
