The 8th international festival Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE’11: REWIND-PLAY-FORWARD is a platform for interrelations between visual and performing arts, as well as between art, science and industry: 7 days dance theater program; 10 days conference with lectures, workshops, excursions; Fluxus happenings’ week, public art activities will unite artists and empower the local community for the common experience in cultural [co]/[post]/productio

Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE’11: REWIND-PLAY-FORWARD is based on the concept of [con]textualized motion in time.

REWIND – visual art and textile based exhibitions and practices, which will analyze the intertwining of the flow of time through the exhibitions based on reflections of the PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE will be based on the exhibitions of established and emerging artists from various art fields world widely.

Repetition (REWIND) is understood in the context of the exhibition as a re-coding of events, while coming back to the beginning or the origins. The biennial will return to the historical practices and archetype connotations of textile by re-conceptualizing and post-producing them in the context of contemporary art, performance / performing arts and various media practices. Event will analyze the intertwining of the flow of time and the changing concept of art through the exhibitions based on reflections of the PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE.

PLAY – performance / contemporary dance program. AURA Dance Theater is collaborating with KASF interdisciplinary connecting visual and performing arts under the program PLAY. Artistic director: Birutė Letukaitė, choreographer, director of AURA Dance Theatre.

FORWARD – scientific reseach, international conference, art in publics, creative collaboration – workshops.
