After the recognized success of the 1st edition in 2012, we are organizing the Contextile 2014 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial, from July 26 to October 11 2014, in Guimaraes / Portugal, maintaining the same philosophical and artistic array: putting textiles in another context, contemporary art.

CONTEXTILE 2014
The team of Ideias Emergentes | Contextile after the acknowledge success of the 1st edition and considering the expectations raised among the Guimarães citizens, has decide to take risks (once more), facing the difficulties that the circumstance of today’s crisis imposes, daring to move forward for the organization and production of the Contextile 2014 – Bienal de Arte Têxtil Contemporânea (Contemporary Textile Art Biennial), that will happen from the 26th Julho to the 11th October, in Guimarães., Portugal.
On this 2nd edition we have as first objective, the development and the enlargement of the refection on the role and importance of contemporary textile art in various forms of expression and artistic representation, but also its role as instrument of interaction and cooperation between territories, people, communities, economies, cultures, societies, sectoral and international networks.
For Contextile 2014 we intend to maintain and reinforce the same conceptual and artistic matrix – to place textile in the context of contemporary art – and maintaining a free theme. We maintain, as well, the same programming structure but enlarging the scale and involving the artistic schools: international competitive exhibition, artistic residencies, satellite exhibitions (artists and invited countries, artistic schools), conferences, interventions and performances in the public space.
Having in perspective the creation of conditions and sustainability in the production of Contextile 2014 we are counting with the strategic involvement of Guimarães Municipality , among other partners, taking into account the transversality and the impact of this event within the citizens of Guimarães and in local economy, as well as in the textile and textile art international community.
