This course intends to rediscover the traditional technique of embroidery using a modern approach and based on a contemporary concept. The whole sphere of "embroidery", which can be found in the internet using "Google", will be the topic of the course. To find information about the actual situation of embroidery, to reflect on this and to use it as a source of inspiration - that will be the main focus of the course. The ideas gathered from the internet will be processed in an individual manner. The main concern of the course will be to choose an own way from the many options of an artistic statement, to frame an idea and to develop an own style in creating works of art. The students will discuss their personal aims and topics with the teacher, it will be worked out an individual creative process and a strategy, finally the artistic ideas will be connected to the technique of embroidery. To the traditional technique of embroidery we will add a strong individual and experimental element. It is not the main objective of this course to teach basic embroidery techniques, even if there will be an introduction into the most important techniques of embroidery. Based on an creative concept the students will develop their own personal technique. In the course we will work with different materials such as fabric, needle, fibre, paper, photography, photocopy, glue and others. Applicants should add photos/copies of own works to the registration form. Students should bring a digital camera, if possible.
