UNITEXT exhibitions and participants

We thank sincerely all artists who participated at the submission and negotiation process for 9th Kaunas Biennial UNITEXT exhibitions and thus made great input into generalization and conceptualization of the new term “unitext”. During past months we received 447 applications from artists representing 65 countries!
The exhibition will be held in Kaunas / Lithuania at the galleries of biennial partner -  National Museum of M. K. Čiurlionis during the period 13 09 2013 – 31 12 2013.

EU conference European Audiences: 2020 and Beyond

Virginija Vitkienė, artistic director of Kaunas Biennial, will present the last edition of biennial TEXTILE’11: REWIND-PLAY-FORWARD at the European Commission conference EUROPEAN AUDIENCES: 2020 AND BEYOND, which will be held in Brussels on 16-17th October, 2012. Kaunas biennial will be presented among successful examples on the topic of audience development.

Kaunas Biennial Interfaces: Gao Yuan (Taiwan) and Jūratė Petruškevičienė (Lithuania)

The tour of Kaunas biennial expositions continues. Following the invitation of Rasa Grybaite, exhibition of Gao Yuan (Grand prix winner at Kaunas Biennail in 2011, Taiwan) and textile artist J. Petruskeviciene (Lithuania) was opened in V. Grybas memorial museum in Jurbarkas. During the opening ceremony R. Grybaite (manager of V. Grybas museum), biennial director V. Vitkiene and J. Petruskeviciene performed a brief introduction of both artists and Kaunas biennial.

8th Kaunas Biennial was finally closed on 23rd December, 2011

SEVERAL FACTS ABOUT 8th EDITION OF KAUNAS BIENNIAL:
•    Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE’11: REWIND – PLAY – FORWARD was most visited edition since its establishment in 1997. About 50 000 visitors had opportunity to visit 22 exhibitions in about 10 galleries and public spaces of Kaunas City.
•    Together with Fluxus exhibition participants (220), Biennial presented 400 artists from 53 countries! We are more than happy that about 250 artists came for opening week to Kaunas and made our city breath internationally.

Kaunas Biennial exhibition REWIND HISTORY (curator dr. Rasa Andriušytė-Žukienė) was presented at Panevėžys City Art gallery from 15 12 2011 till 15 01 2012.

The exhibition REWIND HISTORY questions the understanding of textile as a genre of reproduction that has been formed in art history. Kaunas Biennial will work longer during the last days of the exhibition

Due to the request of the visitors the opening hours of Kaunas Biennial in M. Žilinskas Art Gallery and the overall dates of the exhibition in Kaunas Picture Gallery were prolonged. 

Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE is due to finish at 4th of December in Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis National Art Museum, M. Žilinskas Art Gallery, however the opening hours on December 1st to 3rd were prolonged to 7 p.m. Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE will operate in Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis National Art Museum, Kaunas Picture Gallery until 23rd of December.
